SPORTS AWARDS CATEGORIES 2018

The Living Sport Sports Awards will take place on Thursday 22nd November 2018 at the Burgess Hall, St Ives. There  will be 12 categories for the Living Sport Sports Awards 2018.

Nominations are now open.  To nominate for any of the awards listed below,

 Three finalists will be selected per award category.  For some awards there will be a declared winner but we will not be restricted to the top 3.

1.  SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR – sponsored by Grosvenor

During the past year this individual or team will have:

  • Achieved great success in their chosen sport(s).
  • Made a significant impact in their sport or in their club/team.
  • Been a role model for others and raised the profile of their sport.
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements.

2.  YOUTH SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR – sponsored by Chroma Sport & Trophies

During the past year this individual or team (18 or under on the 22nd November 2018), will have:

  • Achieved success in their chosen sport(s).
  • Made a significant impact in their sport.
  • Been a role model for others and raised the profile of their sport.
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements.

3. YOUNG COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual, who is 18 or under on the 22nd November 2018, will have:

  • Given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity.
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school.
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others.

4. COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR – sponsored by Support Cambridgeshire

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity.
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school.
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others. 

5. COACH OF THE YEAR – sponsored by Anglia Ruskin University Sport & Exercise Sciences

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Committed to providing the highest standard of coaching to their performers, whether individuals or teams.
  • Made a significant impact in their sport by improving the ability to perform as a team(s) and/or individual(s).
  • Helped other coaches to develop.
  • Had a positive and encouraging attitude that has inspired and made a positive impact on others.
  • A current, recognised coaching qualification and where applicable a NGB licence.

6. COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE YEAR (AMATEUR) – sponsored by Lifeplus

During the past year this club will have:

  • Made a significant impact to the development of sport in their community.
  • Made a considerable impact within their sport.
  • Been open and accessible to all members of the community.
  • Committed to training, recruiting and recognising volunteers and coaches.
  • Achieved or maintained its status as a quality club i.e. Club Mark.

7. SERVICES TO SPORT – sponsored by Abbeycroft Leisure

Over a number of years this individual will have:

  • Made an outstanding contribution to local sport.
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school.
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others.

8. SCHOOL OF THE YEAR (PRIMARY, SECONDARY OR COLLEGE) – sponsored by Rawlinsons

During the past year this educational establishment will have:

  • Given its students a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality PE and extra-curricular sport.
  • Enabled teams and/or individuals to make considerable improvements in sport.
  • Been committed to teacher/coach training to continually improve the quality of sport in their school.
  • Shown continual commitment to school/college-club links and working within the local community.

9. WORKPLACE OF THE YEAR – sponsored by Everyone Health

Nominations are invited for businesses committed to improving sport and physical activity participation of their workforce and within their local community.  Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Evidence of commitment to a physically active workforce including promoting opportunities to employees.
  • Evidence of supporting local community sport e.g. sponsoring/supporting events, clubs and/or other organisations, including enabling their workforce to volunteer.
  • Can demonstrate key achievements relating to sport and physical activity.

10. IMPACT AWARDS – sponsored by 3B Design & Print

Nominations are invited for organisations (or parts of an organisation), partnerships, projects or individuals who have improved sport and physical activity participation within their local community including developing people. Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Development of a new pathway which has been effective in encouraging participation in sport by any group.
  • Evidence of wide, strong, successful and embedded working within the local community.
  • Delivery of an outstanding event which engaged greater participation and/or which highlighted the benefits of participating in sport and physical activity.
  • Development of people to support the delivery of sport and physical activity.
  • Can demonstrate key achievements using sport and physical activity to contribute to the five outcomes of the Government’s Sports Strategy.

11. JONNIE PEACOCK AWARD

During the past year this person will have:

  • Shown great personal endeavour to overcome adversity.
  • Achieved something above and beyond in developing themselves or helping others or making a difference.
  • Made a significant impact to a sports club, organisation, community or school locally.
  • Been a role model for others and raised the profile of their sport/cause locally.

12. MATTHEW WARN POWER OF SPORT – sponsored by Mick George

This award will be made to a sport project or initiative that has or is making a significant impact and is really involving the local community using sport. The sport project or initiative will have:

  • Addressed the needs of under-represented groups in sport, e.g. black and minority ethnic groups, people with disabilities or long term conditions, women and girls, low income groups or older people (over 45).
  • Increased the take up of sport by under-represented groups, or addressed the drop off in participation.
  • Demonstrated the “power of sport” to improve or change lives.

For some awards there will be a declared winner but we will not be restricted to the top 3.
