The three-year programme, has now been extended until 2014 and is co-ordinated by The FA and funded by Tesco and the National Sports Foundation. A total of 106, full time, specialist Skills Coaches are focusing on raising technical standards among the 5-11 age groups, when ball skills are ingrained, throughout 26 counties in England.
Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon County F.A. currently have 3 full time Skills coaches. The specialist Cambridge Skills Coaches, are headed by team leader Matthew Joseph, who played for Barbados in their 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The team of Skills Coaches are fully qualified and have completed an official FA age appropriate skills coaching course.
The skills coaches put on sessions in schools and clubs, as well as after-school and holiday skills centres, so that youngsters can be inspired to get active and maximise their ability, whatever their level.
